Support better CRC policies AND your fellow advocates on the Hill!
On March 20th over 150 Fight CRC advocates will meet with members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill to share their stories and advocate for Fight CRC’s policy priorities. But we can’t move the needle alone, we need YOUR help!
- Increase funding for the National Institutes of Health to at least $38 billion, an increase of $2 billion above last year, including 21st Century Cures Act funding and $6 billion for the National Cancer Institute for 2019. From 2011 to 2015, the NCI’s funding of CRC research dropped by more than 20 percent. We must make sure we support research efforts for the number 2 cancer killer in the U.S.
- Fund the DoD PRCRP at $60 million for FY 2019 and ensure that colorectal cancer research continues to be included as eligible for funding under this program. The PRCRP funds high-risk, high-reward science that is not funded by NIH. From 2009 to 2015, the PRCRP funded over $14 million in colorectal cancer research.
- Appropriate $70 million for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Colorectal Cancer Control Program (CRCCP) to provide states with the necessary funding to increase colorectal cancer screening rates in all 50 states. To date, the CRCCP program has provided almost 55,000 colorectal cancer screening exams, diagnosed 165 colorectal cancers and 8,441 cases of precancerous polyps.
- Pass the Removing Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening Act. This is a big one. This act closes a loophole in Medicare policy that charges patients for screening if a polyp is found and removed. We’ve been working on this bill for a while now. It has 245 co-sponsors in the House and 41 in the Senate. It’s time to pass it!
We know you’ll be with us in spirit. Together, we can make our community’s voice heard in every office on Capitol Hill today! Show your support and raise YOUR voice in support of better policies!
